General Atomics (GA) has been a leader in the design, fabrication, testing, licensing, and operation of nuclear material transportation and storage systems for the last 30 years.
GA's high capacity truck casks represent state-of-the-art technology for casks in this category. With four times the capacity of previous LWT casks, our GA-4 and GA-9 casks are able to safely transport spent PWR and BWR fuel at significant cost savings. Also, in cooperation with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries of Japan, GA is offering MHI's advanced design, high capacity rail casks to meet US Department of Energy's needs for transport to the Yucca Mountain Monitored Geologic Repository.
GA therefore provides a total transportation solution to transport spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste to the repository in Nevada from various sites around the United States.
GA's Quality Assurance Program satisfies the requirements of 10 CFR Part 71 "Packaging and Transport of Radioactive Material," and has received approval of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
