GA designed the TRUPACT system for the Department of Energy (DOE) to transport contact-handled transuranic (CH-TRU) waste from the generating sites to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
GA’s innovative features increased the strength of the TRUPACT packaging to resist regulatory accident condition loads and permitted a 200% increase in payload capacity through weight savings. Operational prototypes are now being used to move on-site waste at the Savannah River Plant site.
